Billericay Bowling Club

Wednesday October 30th 2019 against Southend Ladies

The Ladies had an enjoyable game despite the challenges of playing on an indoor rink which had  recently been stretched.  However after a few ends our Billericay Ladies began to adjust their game  and  gave the opposition a run for their money.

Unfortunately the  experienced Skips often destroyed our initial good efforts and we were well and truly beaten on all rinks.

Rink 1;Edith,Wyn,Dee lost 11-33 on shots and 6-12 on ends

Rink 2 Penny,Lynn, Dawn lost  9-31 on shots and 5-11 on ends ( Game halted at 16 ends on time)

Rink 3 Michelle, Sandra, Christine lost 9-22 on shots and 6-12 on ends

Thank you Ladies for you support in representing Billericay Bowling Club

The ladies' Stock Challenge trophy and the men's Lifebuoy competition took place on Sunday 15th September as a combined bowling gala proving to be  a  most successful event . While the outcome was not what Billericay hoped for , the atmosphere and friendship was as convivial as the weather both sunny and warm.

Our Ladies lost on all three rinks  12-24,15-23,4-32 while our men lost on two rinks and won on one so not a total whitewash.

We graciously handed over our new trophy, which was generously purchased by Dawn Hutchison , with the promise to win it back next year.

Marion Fry Trophy

The Marion Fry competition  took place on Saturday 17th August and was a thoroughly enjoyable event. The weather was almost perfect, dry, warm and mostly sunny and the 16 ladies taking part produced some excellent bowling.

The overall winners were Jean Lawrence and Val Dalton with a total of 21 1/2 points.

Hot on their heels were Lorraine Colla and Carol Phillips with 20 1/2 points while third place went to Penny Kirby and Hazel Smith.

A big thank you to Dawn Hutchison for organising this event and to Gordon Cook for being the score master.

Equally a thank you goes  to the Ladies for competing for without them the competition would not have been the success it was.

Billericay Ladies' Day

Our Ladies' day took place on Saturday 10th August  and, despite the gale force winds , was a resounding success.

Eight visiting teams took part with our own ladies in the competition comprising three games of eight ends followed by a lovely lunch.

The team from Southend won the visitors part of the competition while Sandra and Carol won the home team part of the competition.

Congratulations to the winners and of course well done to everyone who took part.

A big thank you to Dee and her willing band of helpers who organised the day and made it such a pleasure to take part in.

LADIES Basildon Sports Trophy

Sunday 23rd June at Wickford Bowls Club

Two teams represented Billericay at this event . The weather was good however the bowling green was in poor condition which made it difficult to find an accurate line or weight. This caused some degree of frustration and not the result we were hoping for Each team played 3 matches of a maximum of nine ends within the allotted time.

Team 1  (Lynn, Hazel and Val) won 2 and lost 1 while team 2 ( Michelle,Dee,Jenny) lost 2 and drew 1.

Unfortunately we did not repeat the win of two years ago.

Thursday 13th June at Essex County

Two teams represented Billericay in this charity tournament which consisted of three games of 8 ends with 2 woods.

While the weather remained dry the temperature was cool with a strong wind which did affect the delivery of the woods

Edith,Jean H and Hazel won their first game but were unfortunately defeated in their next two.

Michelle,Sandra and Lynn had a bye in the first match and were defeated in the next two (losing on shots but drawing on ends)

An enjoyable day never the less.

Tuesday 11 th June Albert Crabb match against South Benfleet and Canvey

Despite the threat of inclement weather and a burst water main ( which resulted in the game being postponed,  at the last minute ,from 10:30 until 1pm) the ladies put up a good fight but were unfortunately denied a victory.

The home team ( Jill,Edith,Jean H, Christine) were defeated 11-23 -with the strategy of long jacks- even though they displayed their talents .

The away team ( Michelle, Sandra,Lynn Jenny) were defeated 18-20 although won 11 of the 21 ends and were leading until the 17th end when the opposition drew level. They won 2 more end by 2 shots whereas we won two more ends by just 1 shot. :-(

Well done Ladies for your effort.
