Billericay Bowling Club Reports Basildon "B"

2026 Match Reports

15th May - Home v Pitsea Riverview 'B'  -  WIN 61 v 49 (3 League Points)

A fine dry, but chilly evening with good playing conditions and the green was bowling well.

Rink 1 - Heather, David B and Mike (skip)
Pitsea had trouble getting a full team out this week and we were probably not up against the strongest opposition, allowing us to lead from start to finish.  It quickly became evident that the opposition were struggling with long jacks, enabling us to capitalise on the fact.  The highlight of the game from our point of view was a 'hotshot', scoring nine shots on the second end!
Final Result 36:9, winning 13 ends.

Rink 2 - Lorraine, Paul and Winston (skip)
After winning a single on the first end, the loss of three shots on each of the next three ends put us on the back foot.  Nevertheless some steady scoring kept us in touch, resulting in the closest score of the night.
Final Result 12:15, winning 9 ends.

Rink 3 - Bob, Gill and Dave A (skip)
Up against probably the strongest opposition, we suffered a string of punishing losses in the first half of the game to be 1:18 down after nine ends.  A much stronger performance in the second half including five shots on the 10th end and three shots on the 14th to produce a more respectable result.
Final Result 13:25, winning 6 ends.

We have our first points on the board!  Well played everybody!  Let's ee if we can keep the momentum going!

8th May - Away v Fords  -  LOSE 35 v 59 (0 League Points)

A fine dry evening.

Being our one and only match to be played on an all-weather surface, we didn't have enormously high expectations. Nevertheless, a disappointing result, especially bearing in mind that on two rinks, we were ahead at times during the game.

Rink 1 - Heather, Jon and Mike (skip)
After losing three shots on the first end, we began a string of five consecutive wins to give us a 6:3 lead.  That was followed by eight consecutive losses, by which time we were 6:15 down.  Despite winning two of the remaining ends victory was out of reach.
Final Result 8:20, winning 7 ends.

Rink 2 - Colin, Derek and Winston (skip)
A good start, winning two of the first three ends, including 5 shots on the 3rd end - leading 6:1.  As on Rink 1, a string of seven consectutive losses meant we were 6:11 down after 10 ends.  Three good ends followed, getting back level at 12:12 after 14 ends.  Unfortunately, we were only able to win one of the remaining ends, but were able to produce the closest result of the night.
Final Result 13:16, winning 6 ends.

Rink 3 - Mavis, Lorraine and Paul (skip)
Another strong start, winning the first two ends.  Losing 10 shots over the next three ends put us on the back foot.  A steady flow of good results between ends 6 and 15 kept us in touch to be just one shot adrift.  However, losing eight shots on the final three ends sealed our fate.
Final Result 14:23, winning 9 ends.

A disppointing result, especially as our whole team played well.  The match produced some very tight heads but the luck just didn't go our way.  A really good effort by the whole team - as Ford's Captain said after the match "the score didn't reflect the standard of play".

Grateful thanks to our reserves Mavis, Derek and Colin for their support this week.

1st May - Home v Carreras 'B'  -  LOSE 36 v 52 (0 League Points)

A fine dry evening. The green was moderately heavy but bowling well.

Rink 2 - Lorraine, Winston and Paul (skip)
A strong start, to be leading 7-1 after the first seven ends.  However, a string of lost ends including five shots on the 14th end left us 8-14 down after 15 ends.  We rallied in the final three ends to end up losing by just two shots.
Final Result 12:14, winning 10 ends.

Rink 3 - Catherine, Bob and David B (skip)
A similar story, making a strong start, leading 7:1 after six ends.  Loss of three shots on the 9th and four shots on the 11th allowed Carreras to take the lead.  We reclaimed four shots on the 12th to leave us one shot adrift.  Carreras got the better of us in the final five ends to run out the winners.
Final Result 13:19, winning 7 ends.

Rink 4 - Heather, Jon & Mike (skip)
We never led in this game and were not able to score until the 4th end, putting us on the back foot right from the start.  Carreras had a very tactical No 2 who seemed adept at putting his woods where they weren't wanted!  A lot of short woods by both teams made it difficult for either skip to affect the score.  Although only two shots adrift at the halfway stage, we were never able to get over the line.
Final Result 11:19, winning 8 ends.

Not the start we would have liked but well tried everyone. As they say - 'It can only get better'!
